Finance deals with Finance

here are many similarities in the finance cluster. First off, they all deal with money. Secondly, most of these jobs are indoor jobs while most jobs in ag are outside. Finally, most finance jobs use a lot of advanced math. Like algebra, calculus, and statistics. Three differences are your job environment. You could sit in front of a computer all day or maybe interview people for loan eligibility. Another difference is where you work. You could work for a bank or maybe be an accountant for a company. The third difference is your paycheck. A bank teller on makes $24k a year, while an accountant makes $70k a year. So there is a big pay difference in the Finance cluster. I have learned a lot as far as career pathways this week. I know FOR SURE that I do not want to work in the Finance industry considering I enjoy being outside. I am also not into numbers on a huge scale.

Government and Public Administration

My two careeres were Mapping Technican and Postmasters and Mail Superindendant. They are similar by the fact that in both jobs you are government employed. Also both careers require a bachelor's degree. In both jobs you need a lot of knowledge in government regulation and public safety. That goes for any job when you work for the government. Both careers have the same working values. Independence, support, and working conditions. In both jobs you are in charge of those around you, be supportive of those around you, and work in and outside. I would enjoy mapping technican because you are outside surveying the land, so you have to be a little hands on. The downside of the Postmaster gig is it is -10% in job opening. So good luck finding a job.

This week flaskback

Well this week we went off thw beaten path a little. First on Monday we did two Education and Traing careers. Tuesday we got a little cray cray and shared for the first time in a while. We did this because sharing is important but it just takes forever. Wednesday we finished sharing and did one career in Agriculture. Thursday we did the opposite true color career. We did this to see the opposite career pathway we needed to take to become a true color we are not. Once we see what we need to do for our opposite, it should be easier to pick our real one. And Friday we caught up on everything and finished ag.

Arts,AV Technology and Communications

I researched Painting,Coating, and Decorating Worker. It is a pretty basic job actually. I paint and decorate articles like furniture, glass, pottery, jewelry, or plateware. I apply paint or primer to decorate the workpiece surface. I also read customer orders and do what they ask, or do touchup work on antiques. This job requires 6 months on the job training and a high school diploma. I'm sure you could go to a vocational school for art bu that is not neccasary. I make $17 dollars an hour and $27k a year in the geneal US. It is projected 3-9% growth. My other career was Radio Announcer. I basically read promos, news reports, and scripted materials. I host talk shows or interview guests while following an outline of what I am suppost to be saying. (Not a word for word script) I read news flashes, comment on current events, and discuss what is going on in the community with audience or guest. The education required is a 2 year degree in broadcasting and I make an average is $14 dollars an hour-$28k a year. This could vary depending on what radio station you work for and how large your audience is.

True Colors results

It turns out I am a Green-19 and Blue-19. So blue means I enjoy helping others and I am a very good listner. I like to be with people and always consider their opinions. My tie with blue was green. Which means I seek knowledge and understanding. Also I work best by myself and am seen as a loner to some. My second place color was orange. I can see my orange characteristics pop up in my mind all the time. I am very witty and I tend not to write down my work in homework. I like to do things in my head and quickly. Whenever I am hanging out with friends Im always up for a good time, (even if it might be not a good idea) but I know when to draw the line in the sand. So to sum it up I like to be with people and know what they think, but at the same time I enjoy me-time and am very laid-back. Also there is some orange sprinkled in there for a good time.

Personality Colors

Blue: I think the best example of a blue is Mrs. Propst. She is alwasys caring how you are doing. If you need help, she would drop everything to help you. Also, Mrs. Propst is very emotional and sentimental. Green: I think Mr. Happ fits the green section. He is super logical and good at math. I swear he knows everything. Whether it be math, science, history, or random knowledge. Also he is pretty funny. Gold: Mr. Boyars is a good example of a gold member. He is always aiming for perfection and being on time. And will do anything to finish what he started. Also he likes everything neat and clean around the classroom. Orange:I think Mrs. Rigdon is a orange person. She gets superexcited when we learn something, then plans a test over it. Also she is very loud and all over the place. ES OBVIO Blue: Abby is a good example of a blue person. She is super nice to everyone, without over doing it and being creepy. Green:Braden is a definite green. even though he may lack logic, a little, he is pretty smart. He also is funny in my opinion. Also he knows a lot of random knowledge that serves no purpose. Gold: Griifin is a 100% gold. He stresses out about tests and if he doesnt finish his homework. He also likes things neat and clean. Orange: Hannah is an orange person. Now matter what we are doing she is always having fun with it.

One of the careers I did was a Transportation Manager. So basically I would plan, direct, or coordinate the routes of a transportation company. So CSX, UPS, Fed Ex are some examples of companies I could work for. The skills needed are math, geography, reading comprehension, critical thinking, coordenation, and active listening. For this job you need a 4 year degree. My other career was a Farm and Ranch Manager. I recorded all of the buisness side of things instead of the Ag stuff. I would plan, direct and manage farms, ranches, or greenhouses. I would also carry out the financial side of things that comes from running a farm. My skills would include animal science, biology, plant science, anatomy, buisness management, marketing, and sales. The ed required is a 2yr degree in animal/plant science and a 2yr degree in buisness management.

Learning Styles

So today we took a test on our learning styles. I ended up being an auditory learner. So in a nutshell I understand stuff that is verbally told to me. The other two styles were tactile and visual. I honestly thought I was a visual learner because when I worked for a man this summer and when he told me to do something, I never understood until he showed me. But they're some traits of an auditory learner that I do have. For instance I am always distracted by noise. I also like listening to radio talk shows every now and then. So I guess now knowing I'm an auditory learner I'll subconciously listen a little better. To study I'll try to read it out loud and hear it out loud. Also if I'm every trying to study, I will always try to be in a quiet enviroment because I am distracted easily by noise.

In this class, career explorations, we research two careers and present some facts about them. We also blog about the connections we made between the two. Human Services is just kinda a fancy term for do what I say for money. Human Services is what it states, providing services for other humans. I researched barber and what you do is cut people's hair how they tell you to do it. If they have a beard, you also trim it and style it to their expectations. My second career was funeral attendant. As a funeral attendant you basically help out with getting ready for the visitation and transporting the deceased to the funeral. Whether it be floral decorations, dressing the deceased, or driving the casket car, that is what they do. Human services is very important because they help out with all the personal tasks of the country. So without them I would be stuck cutting my own hair. Which would be scary. Also I would be stuck organizing my own funeral. I know it isn't possible but you get ehat I am sayng. Human services is very important to our country's well being.

I chose Petroleum Engineer and Aerospace Engineer. They are both vey similar. For example, they both are engineering jobs so in both you are going to be using a lot of math. Whether it be calculus, trig, algebra, or geometry. When you are dealing with engineering, you will use a lot of math. Also any engineering job also has a high paying salary. Which is alright, I guess. I mean why would you want more money. But those are my connections of the week.

I think STEM is an academy and a career cluster because it is just so big in our society. Every day I know for a fact we use technology and math. Our whole society as a funtioning being is based on our infrastructure. Whether it be cell towers, satelites, tv, radio, etc, we depend on it to function properly. Which is a little scary. And we are constantly using math. When we are at school, work, in the car, ordering a meal at Mcdonald's, or whenever we are thinking we are using math. That is why STEm is so big.

Making Career Corrections

I know one connection I have made is it seems the more big cities a state has, the higher the pay. Also,a lawyer in Hollywood would make more money than a lawyer in Paris because all of the celebrity divorce settlements. Another thing I have connected is usually the more college a job requires usually means a higher take home pay. It also a occured to me when a couple weeks ago we researched Health and Human Services, and when everyone said their projected growth, it seemed that the growth was really big. And Mr. Boyars had made the connection for us the industry is growing because all of the baby boomers are starting to grow old. And when you grow old, you start having health problems. More patients means more jobs. It doesn't take to much brain power to make a conncetion, just common sense.
